As a result of the COVID-19 situation, we had to cancel all activities except the following: 1. Constructions and 2. Distributing donations to the schools and kids. It’s a shame for the kids to have lost this good opportunity but we have to make their safety a priority.
Let’s first update about constructions.
Prabat Huai Pheung school: This construction was the fastest. The building that was destroyed by termites has now been rebuilt and completed. It was fast because they chose to use premade wall panels. So, we did not have to build with wood or bricks. Now the kids can study safely in the classroom. They do not have to risk their life to be educated any more.
As a result of solely focusing on the construction and ensuring this was completed as fast as possible the water pump was overlooked. However, this oversight has been rectified and the pump was ordered and has already been received by the teacher, Just in time for the summer. This means they will no longer face any water shortages like in previous dry seasons.
Other things that teachers requested have arrived and been distributed to all students. They have also sent us some pictures. They have sent us some pictures and this truly made us smile.
Kariki school : This school has to be organized and completely quickly as the teacher was going to have to move to another school quite quickly. However as always with everyone’s help we managed to complete everything in time. The teachers managed the project until the building and toilets were completed. The new teacher only had to manage the decorating and this has also been completed now and looks lovely. The Kindergarten kids have a new building and the toilets are connected to the building so it is safer for the kids. These toilets are also connected to girl’s dormitory. At night they do not have to walk in the dark to go to toilet anymore, a lot more convenient and more less risk from snakes or other bug bites.
Now this teacher has been transfered to Dulaper school. He has informed us that he would also would like to ask for sport shoes for the kids in this school. We have arranged for sport shoes for all the students at Dulaper school as an extra mini project.
He also asked for machine to cut the kids hair. As we had already closed the project we have arranged for this to be provided with our personal money. They can now teach older kids to cut the younger kids hair in the class.
Huai Mak Nun school : In the beginning we were worried about this construction a lot. The building is pretty big and it had very dangerous structural problems. Therefore we had to be careful when making new structures. The building which contains 3 rooms has been completed. We didn’t approve for floor tiles and extra ceiling cover. They have received some funding from another organization to carry out the extra work we did not approve.
During the construction there was one accident. One of the builders in the village who volunteered to help the school since the start, cut his wrist with a sawing machine. It was a very deep cut right to the tendon. In the end the doctor be able to repair his damaged wrist. The school gave 3000 baht to support the man. KFAM do not have a policy to help in this kind of situation, we arranged to use our family members personal money to help him. He received 50,000 baht which he can use during his recovery time. We hope her gets well soon.
Purchasing, delivering and receiving stuffs didn’t have any major problems. Everything went more less smoothly and according to plan.
As we all as everything we have mentioned there were also some additional projects to further help the schools. As a result of our lovely sponsors, we arranged some funding to purchase sport shoes for the kids in remote areas. Sport sohes were also provided for the kids in Bragro school and Tagode school (these 2 schools were part of our KFAM projects 2017-2018 but at that time we didn’t find sponsors for sport shoes.) We also received a lot of second hand stuffs. So we have also shared these with these 2 schools.
In order to deliver all the donations for the schools and kids, we got help from Special force unit 5 from Mae Rim Chiangmai they provided people and cars for the transportation. KFAM managed the fuel costs as we do not want to ask the government for funding for this. Delivery took place during 26-28th February 2021 to all schools : Prabat Huai Pheung school, Kariki school, Huai Mak Nun school, Mae Samaeng school, Dulaper school, Bragro school and Tagode school. The distribution to all the kids has been done by the schools themselves. During COVID-19 situation this is the best we can do. Thank you so so much to everyone as with all your help we have managed to make everything complete despite COVID-19.
KFAM projects cannot be completed and done without everybodies help. The help comes from all sides, family sponsors from Thailand and aboard, volunteers, teachers in these remote places that work so hard for their kids happiness, volunteer builders, villagers, soldiers in Phycology Unit in drop off spot in Bangkok and Special Force until 5 in Mae rime Chiangmai etc. It doesn’t matter who we are, where we are from, what religion we believe in or what languages we speak, we help each other to get the projects done. This is because we have one common goal ‘we want to see some kids have a bit better quality of life and be able to receive a good education for their bright futures.’
This does not end here as you know, every year we have an appointment with each other.
